All service provider staff required to report client incidents in CIMS, should complete this eLearning training module.
This e-learn module has been updated in October 2024 as part of the CIMS review, to complement the new CIMS policy effective 9 December 2024.
The module provides service provider staff with an overview of the CIMS policy and outlines the key requirements to support the effective management of the client incident reporting process from start to finish.
The module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and upon completion participants will:
- Understand the five stages of the client incident reporting process
- Recognise an incident in the context of CIMS
- Be able to explain the roles and responsibilities in incident reporting
- Be prepared and capable of using the CIMS IT to create, submit, review, endorse and submit incident reports.

A new e-learn module to support organisations undertaking CIMS investigations for the new CIMS policy, effective 9 December 2024.
This module provides an overview of how to:
- Identify when a CIMS investigation is required
- Effectively plan a CIMS investigation
- Conduct investigations which meet CIMS minimum requirements
- Submit investigation reports to the department which meet CIMS minimum requirements.

CIMS IT user manuals
Two detailed CIMS IT user guides support service provider staff to use the CIMS IT.
- Client incident report webform user manual - CIMS (word) is designed to be used by service provider staff who are required to report and manage client incidents via the department-built CIMS IT.
- Client incident register user manual - CIMS (word) is a guide to support service provider staff using the CIMS IT client incident register to assess, approve and submit client incident information. In particular it provides information for the manager and Chief Executive Officer/ delegated authority roles.
CIMS IT system training environment
The training incident report webform is for service provider staff to practice creating and submitting a client incident report. Please note that in the training environment:
- Users must select ‘Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)' as the service provider organisation
- The function to ‘save and return to a draft incident report’ is not enabled.
