Looking After Children framework

Looking After Children (LAC) is the current care management framework for supporting outcomes-focused, collaborative care for children and young people who are living in out-of-home care (voluntary and statutory).

It focuses on making sure that the child’s day-to-day needs are considered and met while in the care of a service provider.

Looking After Children has been progressively implemented in Victoria since 2003, as the best practice framework for children placed away from their family's care.

Implementation of Looking After Children in disability services is a key requirement of the Disability Services and Children, Youth and Families work plan to align policy and operating frameworks for children and young people with a disability in out-of-home care.

For children and young people in out-of-home care, Looking After Children is the planning framework for disability service providers to meet their obligations, relating to support planning under the Disability Act 2006.
