The Carers Recognition Act 2012 recognises, promotes and values the role of carers.
While carers support people with a disability to go about their day-to-day activities, they may also need their own support to carry out their care role. It is therefore essential that carers are linked to appropriate services to help them maintain their care role, health and wellbeing.
About the Carers Recognition Act 2012
The Carers Recognition Act 2012 formally recognises and values the role of carers and the importance of care relationships in the Victorian community.
The Act includes a set of principles about the significance of care relationships, and specifies obligations for state government agencies, local councils, and other organisations that interact with people in care relationships.
