The effective interaction between the NDIS and specialist clinical mental health services is critical to ensure the smooth transition of consumers into the NDIS and a coordinated response to their mental health treatment and psychosocial disability support needs.
Access to NDIS training and resources for clinical mental health services is available on the NDIS for mental health clinicians website.
Building the capacity of the clinical mental health workforce
The clinical mental health workforce will need to work closely with the NDIS to support eligible consumers, families and carers at each step in the NDIS pathway.
Therefore, a clinical mental health workforce that has sufficient knowledge and skill in the NDIS is important to support the best possible outcomes for people with a severe mental illness and psychosocial disability.
In recognition of this, the department has partnered with health services to deliver NDIS eLearning modules and facilitator led training materials for the clinical mental health workforce and a range of practice advice, tip sheets and tools to assist clinicians to support participants across the NDIS pathway.
These are free and available on the NDIS for mental health clinicians website.
